Key points
- Antoh Decor cuts 16 and 14 gauge steel into custom patterns for railings, gates, doors, partitions, ceilings and façades.
- Send a CAD file (DXF or DWG), a vector (SVG) or simply a clear photo or sketch to redraw.
- Give exact sizes for each opening and the number of pieces; we confirm the layout before cutting.
- Collect from our Nairobi shops or get panels delivered countrywide, ready for powder coating.
CNC laser cutting uses a computer-controlled laser to cut a pattern out of flat steel sheet with clean, precise edges. It is how modern railings, gates and screens are made. At Antoh Decor you can choose from our catalogue designs or order your own. Here is how to order a custom design.
Step 1: Your design
Any of these works:
- A CAD file (DXF or DWG) from your architect or designer: the fastest route.
- A vector file (SVG, AI or PDF).
- A photo or sketch of a design you like. We can redraw it for cutting.
- A catalogue design adjusted to your sizes.
Logos, house names, family initials and patterns taken from tiles or fabric all make striking panels.
Step 2: Sizes and quantities
Measure the inside of each opening the panel will fill (width × height), and note how many of each. Openings that look the same are often a few millimetres different, so measure every one.
Step 3: Choose the steel
| Gauge | Approx. thickness | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 16 | about 1.5 mm | Indoor railings, partitions, ceilings, detailed patterns |
| 14 | about 1.9 mm | Gates, outdoor balconies, façades, larger panels |
Step 4: Layout check
Before cutting, we confirm how the pattern sits in each panel and how it lines up from panel to panel, and we agree any changes. Very fine details may be simplified so they cut cleanly and stay strong.
Step 5: Cutting, collection and finishing
Collect from our Gikomba or Kariobangi branch, or have panels delivered anywhere in Kenya. Weld them into frames with short stitches to avoid distortion, then finish with powder coating.
Design tips for CNC
- Keep connections: every “island” of steel in the pattern must connect to the rest, or it will fall out when cut. Letters like O, A and B need small bridges.
- Do not make bridges too thin: very thin links are weak and can bend. Keep them at least a few times the sheet thickness.
- Leave a solid border around the panel so it can be welded into the frame.
- Think about scale: a pattern that looks fine on a phone screen may be too fine or too bold at full size. Ask us to show the layout at the real size.
- Privacy vs light: more steel means more privacy; more cut-out means more light and view.
Common mistakes
- Sending a low-resolution image with no sizes.
- One measurement for openings that are actually different sizes.
- Choosing 16 gauge for an outdoor gate.
- Forgetting to plan the finish; bare cut edges rust quickly.
