4×8 ft CNC Panels: Where to Use Full-Sheet Designs and 16 vs 14 Gauge

Full 4 × 8 ft CNC sheets cover big surfaces in one piece: gate leaves, façades, privacy screens and partitions. Here is where they work best and how to choose between 16 and 14 gauge.

Key points

  • A 4 × 8 ft CNC panel is a full sheet of laser-cut steel for large surfaces.
  • Designs 401 to 405 cover floral, damask, geometric, bamboo and star patterns.
  • 16 gauge (about 1.5 mm) is lighter; 14 gauge (about 1.9 mm) is stiffer and better for gates and outdoor screens.
  • Panels need a rigid frame and a good finish; powder coating is best outdoors.

CNC Laser-Cut Panels 4 ft × 8 ft (Designs 401–405) — Antoh Decor Enterprises, Nairobi

The 4 × 8 ft CNC panel is the full standard steel sheet, laser-cut edge to edge with a pattern. It is the size to choose when you want a large surface covered in one piece, with no joins breaking the design.

Where 4 × 8 ft panels work best

  • Gate leaves: one panel per leaf on many residential gates.
  • Building façades: as a screen in front of windows or stair cores.
  • Privacy screens on terraces, rooftops and between balconies.
  • Partitions in offices, restaurants and homes.
  • Fence infill between pillars.

16 gauge vs 14 gauge

Steel gauge numbers go down as the sheet gets thicker. 16 gauge is about 1.5 mm and 14 gauge is about 1.9 mm. On a full 4 × 8 ft sheet the difference matters:

  • Choose 14 gauge for gates, outdoor screens and anything that will be leaned on, knocked or exposed to wind. It flexes less and resists dents.
  • Choose 16 gauge for indoor partitions, ceiling features and screens where weight matters more than stiffness.

Framing and finishing

A full sheet with lots of cut-outs is flexible on its own. Weld it into a rigid frame and add a middle rail on tall panels. Stitch-weld rather than running long welds, so heat does not warp the sheet. Then finish with powder coating: it reaches inside every cut edge far better than a brush.

Planning a façade or long fence

When several full sheets sit side by side, plan how the pattern meets at the joints. Some designs repeat neatly across panels; others need the panels arranged in a set order. Tell us the total width and height, and we will lay out how many sheets you need and where the joints fall, so the pattern flows from one sheet to the next.

Light and shadow

CNC panels look different through the day. In the morning and evening, sunlight through the pattern throws its shadow across walls and floors, a feature many homeowners love on stairwells and terraces. Indoors, a light behind a partition panel does the same at night. Choose open patterns (such as 404 bamboo) for more light, and denser patterns (such as 402 damask) for more privacy.

Handling and delivery

Full sheets are large and can bend if carried flat by the middle. Carry them on edge with two people, store them flat on a level surface, and protect them from rain before finishing. We pack and deliver panels countrywide.

Common mistakes

  • Using 16 gauge on a large outdoor gate, which then dents and flexes.
  • No middle rail on tall panels.
  • Long continuous welds that warp the sheet.
  • Painting with a brush and leaving the cut edges bare, where rust starts first.

Frequently asked questions

What thickness is 16 gauge and 14 gauge steel?

16 gauge is about 1.5 mm and 14 gauge is about 1.9 mm.

Which gauge should I use for a CNC gate?

14 gauge, because it is stiffer and resists dents and wind better.

Can you cut a 4×8 CNC panel to a smaller size?

Yes, we cut panels to the size of your opening.

Do you have more designs than 401 to 405?

Yes, more designs are available on request, and we can cut custom artwork.
