Steel sheets & profiles By Antoh Decor Enterprises 3 min read
Key points
- Grooved gate sheets have horizontal lines pressed every 8 inches, giving a slatted look on a solid sheet.
- They give full privacy and strength with a clean, modern style.
- Run the grooves horizontally and line them up across both gate leaves and the pedestrian door.
- Ask Antoh Decor for current thicknesses and sheet sizes.
The minimalist gate, with clean horizontal lines and no ornaments, is one of the most requested modern designs in Kenya. Grooved gate sheets make it easy: the sheet is pressed with horizontal grooves every 8 inches, so a single solid sheet looks like a row of slats.
Why choose grooved sheets
- Privacy: a solid sheet, no gaps to see through.
- Strength: the pressed grooves stiffen the sheet, so it flexes less than flat sheet.
- Speed: no slats to cut and weld one by one.
- Clean look that suits modern houses, townhouses and apartments.
Design tips
- Run the grooves horizontally for the classic modern look.
- Line up the grooves across both gate leaves and the pedestrian door, so they read as continuous lines.
- Add a single accent: a CNC strip, a house number plate or a contrasting top rail.
- Keep the frame slim and the colour simple: charcoal, black, dark grey or white.
Grooved sheet or checkered plate?
Both give privacy. Checkered plate has a textured, decorative pattern; grooved sheet is calm and linear. Choose grooved for a minimalist gate and checkered for a decorated one.
Finishing
Dust collects in the grooves, so clean well before priming. A solid dark colour in powder coating gives the sharpest finish and lasts longest in the sun.
Fabrication tips
- Build a frame with a middle rail; fix the sheet to the frame with short stitch welds or from the back so the face stays clean.
- Cut sheets so that a groove, not a flat area, sits near the top and bottom of each panel. It frames the design neatly.
- Close the top of the frame so rain does not run down behind the sheet.
Wind and solid gates
A solid gate catches wind like a sail. On tall swing gates, use strong hinges and a good drop bolt to hold the leaf open or closed. On sliding gates, good guides at the top stop the gate rocking in gusts.
Common mistakes
- Grooves that do not line up between leaves or with the pedestrian door.
- Welding on the face, which leaves marks that show through the finish.
- Choosing a light colour that shows dust in the grooves on a busy dusty road.
If you are automating a solid sliding gate, factor in the weight when choosing a gate motor. Ask for thicknesses, sizes and a price on the grooved gate sheets page.

Frequently asked questions
What is a grooved gate sheet?
A steel sheet pressed with horizontal grooves, every 8 inches on ours, so a solid gate looks like modern slats.
Are grooved sheets stronger than flat sheets?
The pressed grooves stiffen the sheet, so it flexes less than a flat sheet of the same thickness.
Which thicknesses are available?
Stock changes; ask us on WhatsApp for current thicknesses and sheet sizes.
Can grooved sheets be used on sliding gates?
Yes. Account for the weight of a solid gate when choosing rollers and a gate motor.
